Citizen - The Worlds Best and Affordable Watches

The measurement of time has been a consideration since the beginning of time itself. Its importance is not just confined to man but animals and even insects. Birds watch to know when its time to migrate to warmer areas, caterpillars undergo changes inside their cocoons while waiting for the time to emerge. Ants scurry about in the spring and summer, busily gathering and storing provisions to stave off hunger during the winter months and bears eat as much as they can before going into hibernation and sleeping until the spring arrives.
From the earliest beginnings of man, time has also been an important consideration. It started by watching the sun and the lengthening of shadows in order to calculate when night was about to fall. Watching the days grow shorter harkened the beginning of winter and the need to don animal skins to keep warm. Eventually the sundial was invented to make it a bit easier. Never satisfied, man came up with mechanical timepieces to further be able to break down hours into minutes and then into seconds. These timepieces were named watches.
One can only assume that the word watch is symbolic of how important it has become to watch the time. There are so many things to do in one day that it's important to be able to create an effective schedule that only time management will be able to achieve.
Up to 1924, watches tended to be heavy objects that were fashionable ornaments as much as they were practical items used to tell the time. Watches were easily broken and as a result few people paid out their hard earned cash unless they could afford to replace or fix them. An image of people in expensive suits pulling a pocket watch out of their breast pocket is what springs to mind. Citizen managed to bring watches to the poorer classes by making them more durable.
When Citizen first got going in 1930 there aim seemed to be the first watch company to do everything. Citizen watches changed all that by creating a new brand that was thin and light on the wrist as well as having the added benefit of looking good. And what a success they were. As watches have become more popular, the fashion industry has hopped on the timekeeping bandwagon and decided that if one is to wear a watch it should be in line with current fashion trends or be classic enough to pass down through generations without the latest wearer having to worry about it being out of style. Now, instead of just a timepiece with a plain band, you can get watches that are studded in diamonds, rubies or other types of jewels or bands made of metal, leather and even plastic.
Citizen's watches have been one of the leaders in the timepiece industries, creating fashionable watches with ever evolving mechanical accuracy. Established in 1924, they have continued to come up with ways to make watches even more effective, yet stylish enough to attract those with even the most discriminating tastes.
For 80 years, Citizens watches have graced the wrist of many men and women. They have constantly found a way to revolutionize the watch industry and will probably continue to do so for years to come.
In a few years they became one of the biggest selling watches in history and continue to sell well today.

The reason they have achieved such a niche in the market is due to their quality. A quality that has never diminished, despite the ever growing competition and the temptation to appeal to a broader market.
Secondly they are one of those rare companies that are not afraid to take risks. In a world where major co-operations continue to regurgitate the same old thing, Citizen is intent on reinventing the market. They just won't sit on their laurels, taking the meaning of the word citizen to the extreme.
They were the first to create thin watches which were preferable to the large bulky ones, they then made shock resistant watches which lessened the need for watches to be constantly repairs. Their most recent achievement is the analog quartz watch which gathers its energy from the sun which makes it environmentally friendly. It is also cost effective because the need to replace the battery has been eradicated.
Later on Citizen made the first professional diving watch. This watch was not only waterproof but featured an electronic depth sensor. Nowadays this is seen on many brands of watches yet it was Citizen who first put them into the market place.
Most recently, Citizen has staked out a new position - the leader in Ecologically Friendly timekeeping with its Eco-Drive collection of light powered watches. With models ranging from dress models to sport models to professional dive watches, Citizen Eco-Drive runs continuously in any kind of natural or artificial light for a lifetime of use. Fueled by light, it never needs a battery. Their latest innovation is perhaps the most impressive. Again this is now used by many watch companies, none of them with the originality of citizen. No doubt they will continue with this line while citizen thinks up something else. In fact this seems to be the pattern in the watch world, no one really moving on until Citizen do.
If you are looking for a good durable watch, that not only looks good but also is very reliable and has excellent performance, you should certainly look into the Citizen brand of watches. They have the most excellent variety, with the durability and the quality – all at the right price. If you are ready to search through some of the best watches for yourself or a loved one click here.
Beyond sheer size, Citizen is also recognized as a worldwide leader in advanced technology. From the world’s slimmest LCD watch to the first voice recognition watch and the world’s first professional dive watch with an electronic depth sensor, Citizen’s record of “worlds firsts” is unmatched.
Ever wondered what the most accurate watch in the world is? It's probably not what you think.
You might guess a radio-controlled quartz watch like the Casio G-Shock Gulfman, or the Citizen Skyhawk. That's a good starting point. Atomic watches are very accurate if you can receive the radio signals. But there are large portions of the world where they don't reach (Central/South America, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, the poles, out on the ocean — even plenty of places that are technically within range, but for whatever reason, not conducive to signal penetration).
Another possible answer is a GPS watch like the Suunto X9i which works almost anywhere on the globe. Unfortunately, it has very limited battery life, and doesn't sync automatically.
Conventional quartz movements are generally accurate to ±15 seconds per month, or 3 minutes per year. That's good enough for pretty much any application, as evidenced by the fact that accuracy hasn't improved much since the 1970s. More modern technology has brought a few high-accuracy quartz movements:
• The ETA Thermoline movement, as used in some Breitlings.
• Seiko 8F and 9F movements, generally good to 10-20 seconds per year.
• And today's mystery contestant: the Citizen A660.
Say hello to one of the best wolf-in-sheep's clothing watches in existence: the Citizen Chronomaster (aka "The Citizen"). The A660 movement inside the Citizen Chronomaster is the most accurate in the world right now, rated to an amazing ±5 seconds per year. There's a variety of faces and hands, but the basic watch style is a very understated men's dress watch. The cost is around $1,100 - $1,300USD at present — not bad for such impressive technology and looks.
Specifications for the model shown to the right, the The Citizen Chronomaster CTQ57-1022
• A660 quartz movement good to ±5 seconds per year.
• Hardened Duratect titanium case and band.
• Sapphire crystal, double-sided anti-reflective coated.
• Perpetual calendar until 2100.
• 100m (330ft) water resistant.
• 10 year warranty (with free battery changes, no less).
• 5-year battery.
• 10.8mm by 37mm case: medium-sized for a men's dress watch. A mere 88g in weight due to the titanium.
The CTQ57-1022 is probably the flashiest model in the lineup with its contrasting minute ring and seconds hand. The other models have much more understated silver or black dress dials.
In a lot of ways, the A660 is the ultimate watch geeks' watch. It looks like a generic Citizen you'd buy at the local mall with no hint of the amazing engineering under the dial. Forums on the Internet have stories of A660 owners noticing when leap seconds are added to because their beloved Citizen Chronomaster is suddenly an entire second off!
If you want the ultimate in accuracy and functionality, and don't care about showing off, the A660 was made for you. To take a look at this watch and other citizen watches click below
